This is D'Shawn Francine "Fransisco" Mustard. He says "hi"
My goodness it's been a long time! This past semester at Andrews was a doozy, and just because I've reached the glorious rays of summer doesn't mean the work is done! This summer is gonna be insanely busy. Here's the rundown:
May: Live with parents
June: Work at camp
July: Take a summer class
August: Work at a camporee
This will be one wild summer.
Anyway, let me introduce you to D'Shawn. He was made by a friend for my birthday, and I have given myself the task of bringing him everywhere I go. Because there's so much stuff going on this summer, it won't be hard to find places to take pictures with D'Shawn.
Oh, why the weird name? I and a couple friends were throwing around names and we couldn't decide between D'Shawn and Francine. Eventually, we decided on D'Shawn but kept Francine as a middle name. Someone said Francine sounded like Fransisco so we made that his nickname. And Mustard? Well, if you say his first and last name together, D'Shawn Mustard, it sounds like dijon mustard... yeah... IT SOUNDED COOL AT THE TIME, OK?
Anyway, I'll post weekly (or bi-weekly... we'll see how this pans out) updates of D'Shawn to keep y'all up to date on the happenings in my neck of the woods. This update is going to be rather large since it's been about 2-3 weeks so far. The statements in quotations below each picture provide a short quip from D'Shawn describing his adventures if you don't wanna read the whole description. The day count started on May 2.
"Day 1: I have arrived in Indiana. It turns out not everything is made of corn"
The night of May 1 was filled with birthday celebrations, goodbyes, and tons of frantic packing. It was capped off by the desperate search for an RA to check us out of our room before curfew. Thank God we found a couple awesome guys by the names of Oliver and Ashok who technically checked us out after curfew! A two hour drive to our house in Indiana followed and I got to sleep in my own bed again.
"Day 2: Running the soundboard at church"
Our family as a whole was able to attend at our home church for the first time in 8 months! Our dad used to be the pastor there and I still count it as my home congregation.
"Day 4: Safe in Colorado. Rice tastes way better at home :D (and it's actually cooked... I'm looking at you, caf -__-)"
The next day, we drove 18 hours from Indiana to our parents' 2-room apartment in Colorado. We took shifts driving to ease the load on any one person driving. Side note: the rice at the cafeteria was always horrible.
"Day 5: #ballislife"
Go Pacers! That is all...
"Day 6: Apparently you need to be a certain height to drive go karts... and have legs."
If you're in the Denver area and need a go kart fix, Unser racing. Awesome stuff
"Day 10: TIL Mountain weather is more unpredictable than Midwest weather"
So it snowed... in May... what?! Although I rather like snow. I enjoyed seeing the white powder at least one more time before the summer season.
"Day 12: To play Chopsticks, I use chopsticks"
My brother and I were asked (*cough* *forced*) to play a piece for church the following week. He would play trumpet. I would play piano. The problem was the fact that we didn't have a working piano in the apartment. We brought a keyboard over from Indiana but it broke on the way. Therefore, to practice, we had to drive thirty-plus minutes (depending on traffic) to the church every day that week to practice. Oh the joys of living in a two room apartment...
"Day 13: There's a dubstep festival here in two days. I can already feel the rise in #turnt in the air."
This is Red Rocks State Park/Amphitheater. Many a band has played on that stage. From Bruno Mars to Mumford and Sons, John Mayer to Josh Groban, Chris Tomlin to Skrillex, this place has seen it all... except for a small stuffed dog... I bet that's new.
Best Wishes! -Richie
